Confess your automotive sins here and all will be forgiven or mocked mercilessly through GIFs.

Kinja'd!!!

If I ever bought a 7 Series, it would be an E65, because of the rear end. I genuinely like how it looks, even though I think the hood is too stubby and short.

Kinja'd!!!

I think the new Prius is horrible, but I’m always happy to see one in traffic, because at least it isn’t another nondescript econobox like almost everything else in its segment. It’s horrible in the way that 90s cars used to be horrible, not horrible in the “oh god, is that a Trax? Life has lost all meaning” sort of way.

I hate diesels. My least favorite thing about traveling abroad is being somewhere where everyone drives diesels like Spain. They smell horrible. I’m sort of glad that VW more or less killed diesels in America, because I was horrified when gas stations started making pumps that sold both gasosine and diesel.

I like being inside overpriced luxo-trucks. It’s just a nice place to be.

Every SUV I’ve ever owned had 4wd, because I demanded so. I have needed it probably five times in 12 years.

I prefer the look of the late generation Camaro SS F-Body to all other F body variants.

I hate doing my own oil changes because I can rarely do it cheaper than I can pay someone else to do it.

I prefer sport sedans to wagons or coupes.

I have to agree with this. If I were buying a car just for fun, it would be a manual. But as a DD with my current commute of over an hour of endless stop-and-go traffic? It would get old very fast.

Telling your car what gear to be in is fun and great, but it's a chore in a situation where you might maybe possible hit 40 if you're lucky.

My mom bought an NC Miata because she wanted a cheap sports car. I dutifully borrowed it. It was fun, I'm happy it exists, it was great fun to go get coffee in the morning and leave the top down. But every time I drive it somewhere, I always wished I had a different car to drive back in.

I’m not a fan of fast cars. High horsepower and short gears scare the shit out of me. The fastest car I’ve ever owned was a stock ‘85 Mustang with a 5.0. My current DD is 95 XJ 4.0 with a stick and 3.07 gears. I love it. Just enough power not to feel slow, but not so much that I get stressed out.

I like the 6 speed auto in the NC/ND Miata. As far as autos go, its pretty damn good.

I towed a 6x12 cargo trailer with around 6,000 pounds in it from Florida to Oregon behind a Dodge Magnum RT. It had a single 3,500 pounds axle and no trailer brakes. Through blizzard and snowy mountain passes. What Orlove did? Not that bad.

I don’t have a desire for a manual or a Miata. I’m too lazy in the grinding traffic and hills here, and I like a little room.

If I wasn’t into MBs, I would probably be driving a Lexus (but pre-predator).

I’ve had a couple AMG cars, and am now over it. I now drive a 4cyl diesel, and it performs just fine, thank you very much.

I find the BL Princess to be somehow very interesting, not pretty, but I can’t not look. I also think a Vega or even Pinto wagon can be good looking.

I’m with you one 1, 4, 5.

My first car was a 1997 Camaro RS, because my mom grew up in the 50s and believed that every teenage’s first car should be a “muscle car.” My mom is awesome, but even with its completely pathetic and anemic engine, it was way too much car for a stupid teenager who didn’t understand how rear wheel drive works. It was also the worst car I’ve ever owned mechanically, and the only car I’ve ever owned where things just broke off. It was also a cop magnet and I’d get followed around almost every single day. And they have one of the most embarrassing stereotypes of any car. Even so, I still think they're good looking cars.

I’ve never used a J-gate and don’t know how it works, but one of the pleasant things about the subarus auto is that it has a “sport” mode, that mostly just means it doesn’t upshift while you’re going uphill, and a +\- option if you really feel the need to try and shift yourself. Mostly it just makes it the best auto I’ve ever used on hilly, windy roads that usually confuse a normal auto, or make you leave it in 2 or 3. I think if my commute was actually nice I would want standard again. I hate driving standard during my current commute, it’s just half an hour of gridlock both ways.

A J-Gate is basically a reallllllly analogue version of that. You know how older autos usually have a 1 and 2 you can shift into? J-Gates have 2-4.

My Jag has a sport mode like that as well, except if you don't have it on, the car will always start in second and will really, really take a long time to think about downshifting if you floor it.

The key is just build a large gap between the car in front of you, then take off. That way you can just coast when the person ahead brakes, comes to a stop, and then starts moving again. Some people will be like oh look a gap and floor it in and then slam on their brakes, but its the easiest way to deal with traffic in a manual.

Diesels not in trucks are stupid.

While I don’t dislike it, I don’t see the big deal about driving manual. Driving is driving. Transmission makes no difference to me.

Drag racing > Autocross.

I don’t find twisty roads fun, I find them tedious.

I think modding cars for performance is stupid. I find it hard to believe that some armchair mechanic can really make a car better than the team of engineers and millions of dollars that the companies invested could.

I don’t think it’s the best choice for everyone, but it’s the best choice for me, so if a car don’t come with 3 pedals, I don’t want it. Boring cars can be fun. If you can’t put a smile on your face driving a beigebox like a child, you’re the problem not the car

Yup. It is a great feeling of confidence. Although the random alternator failure that caubght me at the end was an unexpected one haha.

I drove the Cavalier from 90,000 kms (55,000 miles) all the way to 234,200 kms (145,000 miles) (almost made it to 234,567 but not quite). So I drove it 90,000 and came to know it inside and out.

And I know I’ll lose you with this one but I DESPISE panthers. I hate that platform so fucking much I’d hold its head underwater until bubbles stopped coming up if I could.

And while I'm at it, fuck turbos. If you need to tack a hairdryer onto your motor, your motor isn't big enough.

I’m right around 198k miles (100k are my own), and despite a wiper motor that dies yearly, that thing just won’t stop running.

I had to star you for the turbos, even though I unabashedly love my Town Car and all things Panther.

While it is a personal preference, I just don’t like the assumption that every manual is good (they’re not), and everything automatic is bad, and giving something a manual transmission will automatically make it good.

I once parked the Range Rover overnight on a bike lane by accident.

Most if not all modifications are stupid, you are not better than the engineers that designed the car.

Don’t like the Miata, it is just like a British roadster without the charm and character

I drive like an asshole 85% of the time.

I couldn’t agree more with two and three. Actually, three sums up exactly how I feel about the Miata. I’ve always felt a bit bad about not caring for the Miata but adoring MGs and the like. The lack of charm kind of sums it up, though.

I think my adoration for the Smart Fortwo is a fairly open secret.

As someone who has lived in Manhattan and Philadelphia, I have so much love for Smart cars and Fiat 500s

Manuel elitism grinds my gears.

Laughing at “Huh huh, wrong wheel drive!” makes want to kill myself.

The Prius is a fine, if boring, appliance for people who want to get from A to Z.

Brand wars are stupid and pointless.

If I did buy a Miata, which I like, it would be an RF model with an automatic.

You just don't seem to get a fucking break with yours. Maybe sell it and find a better example? It's like the damn thing is cursed.
